What you Eat and Drink Matters
There are multiple ways to eat healthily and everyone has their own eating style. So make choices that match your preferences and budget. Focus on choosing a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins to get the most nutrition and to meet your calorie needs. Try and limit your saturated fat, sodium and added sugars. Eating healthy isn’t restrictive like a diet. Where there is a list of foods that you can’t have but, eating a certain way most of the time. So that it becomes a habit and is easier to keep up over time.
Creating healthy eating habits will make it easier for you to stay on track. Because you don’t have to give up the foods you love just focus on eating foods that are not highly processed. Using portion control as a healthy-eating strategy allows you to eat almost any food while keeping calories in check. I love this. I’ve been making HUGE changes in my eating habits over the past 3 months and it’s been such an amazing experience. I feel better, physically and mentally, and I’ve noticed a visible change in my body.
What I’ve found that works best for me to get excited about eating healthy is COOKING healthy. I’ve never been interested in cooking but finding tasty, healthy and interesting recipes has changed that. GardenGrazer in particular has become my favorite go-to for recipes ?
That’s great! Getting excited about cooking healthy was a big part for me as well. I love looking for through cookbooks and trying something new.
For weight loss, I adopted the 4-step practice of eating only when hungry, eating whatever I want, putting the fork down while chewing each bite at least 20 times, and stopping no matter what is still on the plate when I start to feel full.
This isn’t original with me. I saw it on a television program about better eating habits.
Those are some great eating habits to have. I do the chewing each bite at least 20 times, and stopping when I’m full. It really helped me with not overeating.
This is such a great post! I have made some changes to my lifestyle over the last year but it took me such a long time to embed a healthier eating plan into my lifestyle. One of the key things for me was to make healthier versions of the meals that feel like treats, that way it is less like you are missing out. Agree also in terms of portion control but I am not there yet. I manage it sometimes but struggle to move away from the mindset that it is better to have a big healthy meal than less and then risk snacking on unhealthier things. Still, it is a journey and I will get there.
Small changes over time definitely help to embed healthier ways and is a much healthier and realistic longer-term lifestyle than fad diets. I haven’t yet mastered drinking enough water either but all efforts are a step in the right direction!

Making healthier versions of meals feel like treats are something I did as well. I would look through cookbooks for meals that looked good. Then I would get excited about getting to cook and try those meals. Drinking water is a challenge its something I struggle with as well.
