“We do not need to eat animals, wear animals, or use animals for entertainment purposes, and our only defense of these uses is our pleasure, amusement, and convenience.” -Gary Francione

While discovering new and delicious recipes along the way. So if your interested in taking on the challenge this month. Here are a few resources and ideas to help get you started.

What is Veganuary?

It’s a campaign and global charity. Launched in the UK in 2014 and encourages people to try a vegan diet. For the first month of the year.

What’s a vegan diet and reasons to follow it

A vegan diet is a plant-based diet that is free of all animal products. It includes staying away from meat, fish, shellfish, dairy, eggs, and honey. Also, vegan eating focuses on eating lots of vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, and nuts. But you might wonder why someone would choose to eat a vegan diet. Their plenty of sources that will list plenty of reasons, but here are just a few key reasons.

Health

There are lots of health benefits when it comes to a vegan diet. It can help you support a healthy heart and protect against type 2 diabetes. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables is a great way to support a healthy body.

Environment

Eating a plant-based diet can have a positive impact on the environment. Animal agriculture creates around 50% of global greenhouse emissions and uses a large amount of land. So to make more land, we destroy vast areas of Rain Forest every day. To give land for animals to graze and to grow animal feed. A plant-based diet can help reduce these environmental impacts.

Animal Welfare

Of course, a big part of this lifestyle choice is the want to reduce animal suffering. And not support the poor treatment of animals in the meat industry, dairy industry, or chickens raised for their eggs. For example, eggs that say “free-range” does not mean the chickens have a good life. Some don’t even see the outside of their pens. Although humans have been drinking milk for a long time, the dairy industry has changed over the last century to meet demand. As a result, cows are subject too much more grueling regimens.
