Today is Earth Day, and people are joining forces to clean up and spread awareness of the little things that can help the environment. When it comes to going green some may think it’s a challenge but, it’s easier than you think. There are little things that you can do every day to make a less harmful impact on the environment. So here are five simple things that you can do to help protect the earth. They are easy to do and anyone can do them with a little goodwill.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Follow the three R’s to reduce landfill waste and conserve natural resources by cutting down what you throw away. Recycling is an easy thing you can do and lots of garbage disposal companies offer recycling services. Switch to a reusable water bottle and fill it with plastic instead of buying plastic water bottles. Reduce the amount of paper in your life by receiving your bills electronically instead of by mail. Just be mindful of what you’re throwing away and check to see if you can recycle, reuse, or repurpose something before throwing it out.
Conserve Water
Pay attention to your water use because the little things can help. By turning off the water while you’re brushing your teeth, you’re doing something good. Take shorter showers, don’t use your toilet as a trash can, or buy an energy-efficient showerhead. It may all seem small but it makes a big difference in the amount of runoff and wastewater that ends up in the ocean.
Shop Wisely
When you go shopping don’t forget your reusable shopping bags. Try to buy less plastic and non-toxic products that are safe for the environment. Look for long-lasting energy-efficient light bulbs that reduce greenhouse emissions. Shop local and when buying seafood look for sustainably caught seafood. To help conserve fish stock and the ecosystems that support them.
Volunteer
Volunteer in your community. Help with cleanups or get involved with protecting the watershed. Find an activity that suits your interest and set aside to help out. It can be with a group of friends, classmates, or a church group. Taking the time to help promote a better environment can make a difference. And ensure high-quality resources for yourself and future generations.
Educate
Further your education and help others understand the value and importance of our natural resources. Talking about ways to save the environment can help out a lot. Because we all live on this planet and we have to protect it. The more people aware of environmental protection methods, the more likely things will improve.
