November was busy I finished my assignment with the election board, then started working on preparing to move and start school. So I spent most of the month burnt out. I have a bad habit of taking on too much at once. And that’s what I did the first part of November. Towards the end, I lightened up my workload and took breaks. So here’s what I was up to in November and what I have planned for December.
Orientation and Registering for Classes
Last month, I had my virtual transfer orientation. MSU of Denver offered both in-person and virtual orientations. I would have preferred the in-person, but the election board didn’t give me an end date for the assignment until the last day, so I went with the virtual orientation to be on the safe side. Before orientation, I felt really anxious mainly because I didn’t know what to expect, and I knew I was going to have technical issues. A while ago, there was a bad thunderstorm and ever since I’ve been having problems with my internet. I’ve had my service provider take a look at it, but they didn’t find any issues and recommended I buy a new router. Which I did and I’m still having the same problems. Since I don’t have much longer left in my apartment, I’m just making do with it until I move.
I had technical issues throughout the orientation, so I missed parts of it. It started with the staff going over what’s available on campus and how to access it. Both the video and sounds kept going out during the presentation. It’s something that was covered in pre-orientation so I don’t think I missed much. Then we meet with our transfer peer mentors, followed by academic advising. Once again the video and sounds came in and out and I wasn’t able to get on the call with my advisor. She ended up calling me on the phone instead.
For the spring semester, I’ll be taking four classes. I’m taking multicultural America, introduction to nutrition, health career foundations, and dynamics of health. The only class I’m not looking forward to is multicultural America. History isn’t my best subject. When I went to Lansing Community College I took a history class and I struggled to stay awake during class. Hopefully, I’ll be able to stay awake and pass the class. The rest of my classes are core courses for my degree. School starts on January 19th and I only have a couple of tasks left to complete. I’m looking forward to the start of the semester.
Apartment Search Continues
In November I continued my search for an apartment in Denver. A the time of writing this, I’m more than likely going to move forward with a studio loft that’s near classes. Unless I found something else or they don’t have anything available for my move-in date. Not being able to see places in person is making the search for an apartment difficult. I’m not able to see the neighborhood the apartment is in or if they take care of the grounds. The leasing agent for the lofts has been willing to show me everything she can. Other places not so much, they’ve been referring me to their websites for photos.
Thanksgiving
I was planning on visiting my family in Michigan for Thanksgiving but ended up changing my mind. Towards the end of November, I was burnt out and I wasn’t feeling well. Between working, packing, and preparing for school. I was exhausted and decided to use the holiday as a chance to relax. So I slept in and made myself a nice Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t usually make traditional Thanksgiving foods for Thanksgiving. Last year I did a vegan hot pot and brownies for dessert. I thought about doing vegan sukiyaki, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find all the ingredients. Instead, I decided to go to the traditional route and use what I had at home. I ended up making some vegan turkey cutlets, mashed potatoes, and gravy, roasted veggies, and cornbread dressing.
December Goals & Plans
For December, my plans are to move and get settled into my new place. My plan is to move before or after Christmas. So I probably won’t celebrate Christmas this year. I’m not a big fan of Christmas anyway, so it doesn’t bother me to skip it. My goal is to have a smooth move from Kansas City to Denver. So leading up to my move I’ll be doing a lot of decluttering and packing. My other goal is not to get too stressed out with moving. So I’ll have to remember to take breaks when needed so I don’t get overwhelmed. That’s it for me my November wasn’t too exciting, but at least I got a lot done and a chance to relax.
