Struggling to stay motivated towards your goals? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The good news is there are things you can do to improve your self-motivation. Being self-motivated is important, it gives you control. Some things lie outside of our control. When we lean on something outside of ourselves for motivation, there’s the possibility it can be taken away. With self-motivation, you are much more likely to commit to what you’re doing and push yourself. It’s ideal to find your motivation from within instead of someone else. Plus it puts into perspective where you are and how you can improve yourself moving forward.
Self-motivation is key in reaching your goals and creating the best version of yourself. We all have those days where staying self-motivated seems out of reach. Here are some tips you can use daily to help you build self-motivation.
Take Breaks when Needed
You’re not going to get very far if you’re running low on energy and motivation. If you find yourself struggling to focus, or you’re having a hard time staying motivated. Then it may be time for you to take a break and recharge. It’s important to remember that life isn’t a race. You don’t have to rush the process. Take it a little at a time and take breaks when needed. Recharge yourself so that you have enough energy to tackle the challenges life throws at you.
Celebrate wins both BIG and small
Be proud of the progress you’re making no matter how big or small. Progress is progress, and something you should be proud of. Keep yourself motivated by tracking your progress and celebrating all wins. Even if it’s something small. It still brings you closer to your goals.
Track your Progress
Keep track of how far you’ve from where you started. You can keep a journal and journal your progress. As well as, take a jar and add marbles to it for each day of progress. Revisit where you keep track regularly to see how far you’ve come.
Practice Gratitude
Be grateful for the journey and the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Take time to practice gratitude and bring your focus to what you’re grateful for along your journey.
Assess your Goals
Having a goal and something you’re working towards is only one part of the journey. It takes not only a plan but a well-developed goal as well. When creating goals, be sure to assess them by asking the following questions:
- Is my goal measurable?
- Can my goal be simplified?
- Is my goal broad or specific? If it’s too broad, how can I narrow it down?
- What blocks may keep me from goals and how can I overcome them?
- Is there anything that can aid me in reaching my goals?
- Do I have too many goals?
By doing this, you’re defining your goal and creating goals that are both measurable and reachable. When we have a goal with little thought behind it, it becomes difficult to stay motivated. A goal without a plan will lead to inaction.
Be Careful who you listen to
Don’t let the words of others, slow your progress. On your journey, people will but in with their own self-limiting beliefs. They’ll try and get in your head and make you feel as though your goal isn’t reachable. There are also people who want to aid and support you on your journey. One group is harmful to your self-motivation and the other helpful. Be careful who you listen to, and don’t let those with negative intentions get in your head and halt your motivation.
It’s common to struggle with motivation on the journey to reaching your goals. Even though it may feel like you’ve lost it, it’s still can be regained. You have the tools within you to succeed. Don’t be in a rush to reach the finish line instead focus on where you are and where you’re going. Celebrate progress and don’t let the words of others stand in your way of reaching your goals.
