“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” -John Muir
The Parkville Nature Sanctuary is a wildlife preserve and educational site developed and maintained by Parkville, MO with the help of volunteers. Parkville, MO is a historic river town located 5 miles north of downtown Kansas City. The City of Parkville is best known for its antique shops, art galleries, and historic downtown.  I only live about 10 minutes from the nature sanctuary. With the weather getting warmer and my recent purchase of the iPhone X, I’ve been wanting to get out more so I could test out the camera on my new phone. In addition to temperatures being in the 60s, and this being my last Saturday off from work for a while. I decided to check out the Parkville Nature Sanctuary and test out my new iPhone.

Exploring the Parkville Nature Sanctuary

The main trail takes you through the valley below the dam of Riss Lake. There are several short but, nice trails. The White Tail Trail takes you up the side of the valley to the top of a ridge overlooking the Missouri River. This trail is the longest at 1.5 miles. It’s well maintained and a great place to get away and escape from busy city life. I walked up to the waterfall which wasn’t much of a waterfall. My area didn’t get a lot of snow this winter so the water levels were pretty low but, it was still beautiful.  Even though it was low you could still hear the relaxing sound of trickling water.

My iPhone 6 was giving me issues and the camera would focus in and out so much my photos would come out blurry. My new iPhone is a huge improvement. I was able to get a lot of amazing pictures. Played with some of the filters, portrait mode, and the live photo feature. I still have a lot to learn but, I’m glad that upgraded.

Since I live in an area of the country were native timber and dense forest are a rarity it’s nice having a place like this close by. And, I can’t wait to see it in the spring in full bloom. If you live in the Kansas City area or plan on visiting this is a place to check out.
