5 Tips for Improving Your Self-Esteem
“Your self-esteem won’t come from body parts. You need to step away from the mirror every once in a while, and look for another reflection, like the one in the eyes of the people who love you and admire you.” –Stacy London
Improving Self-Esteem

Many of us know the value of improving our feeling of self-worth. When our self-esteem is higher the better we feel about ourselves and have an easier time dealing with rejection or failure. You’re also less vulnerable to depression but, as great as high self-esteem sounds improving it is no easy task. It’s unstable going up and down throughout the day but, it’s not impossible to improve your self-esteem. So here are five tips to help improve your self-esteem when you are feeling low.

Shut down those voices

Overpower those negative thoughts with positive ones. Next time your self-esteem is lagging try using believable positive affirmations. For example, something like “I’m going to be amazing” might create resistance in your mind because that voice inside your head comes in with something to counteract it. Then you end up feeling worse than you already did. So one way to avoid that is starting your affirmations off with “I’m in the process of”. When using this phrase it leaves little room for that negative voice to disagree because you’re stating a fact. Also, your focusing on what your goal is instead of feelings of doubt.

There are lots of books that help with positive thinking.  Here are a few to check out.

Treat Yourself

Appreciate yourself and take the time to show it by taking a bubble bath, or going for a nice walk. You will feel happier when you invest in yourself and don’t feel guilty about doing it. Practice being kind to yourself and make it a habit.

Surround yourself with supportive and positive people

The company you keep can either build you up or tear you down. It’s easier to feel good about yourself when you’re around people who love and accept you the way you are. So surround yourself with kind, supportive, positive people.

Write down 10 things you like about yourself

Having a daily routine that revolves around putting yourself down is likely making you feel worse. In order to overcome this, it’s important to shift your attention to the positives about yourself. And one way to achieve that is by keeping a gratitude journal. Take the time to write down 10 good things about yourself daily and read them often. At first, it may be hard but over time it’ll get easier.

Use worry time to help others

Take that time that you use worrying or beating yourself up and do something to help others. Reach out to others and make a positive change in the world.

Free self-affirmation printable

I created a set of five self-affirmations that you can print out. They’ll remind you that you are capable and enough and inspire abundance and mindfulness. There are a lot of ways to use these. You can frame these and put them in your office or workspace, stick them to your bathroom mirror, or send them to a friend. You can even print a smaller version and shuffle them up each morning and grab a random one. Let that be your focus for the day and keep the card with you or just the words.
