When it comes to November most people think of family gatherings, football, and trying to snag a deal at your local retail store. One thing that’s been lost over the years is gratitude and giving back. The month of November is more than yummy food and shopping, but being grateful for everything we have and giving back to the community and helping those in need. So this month take the time to think of ways you can give back. But, if you’re having trouble coming up with ideas here are some things you can do to help out around your community for November or all year round.
Visit a Retirement Home
Some seniors living in a retirement home are likely not able to spend time with their families on Thanksgiving. So look for a retirement home in your area and take some time out of your day to visit during their visiting hours. You can bring a small gift or just a good conversation.
Donate or Help out at a Local Food Bank
During the holiday season, food banks get busy and can always use some extra help. Chances are you have some extra canned goods in your pantry so consider donating them, or consider spending a couple of hours on the weekend helping out at your local food bank. Find a local food bank and give them a call to see what they need and their volunteer hours.
Visit a Hospital
One place that doesn’t take a break during the holiday season is hospitals. Check with your local hospital to see if they’re taking volunteers during the holidays. You can offer to serve food, read to children, brings small gifts, or simply spend time with someone.
Help Out at Your Local Animal Shelter
If you’re an animal lover and rather spend your time with animals than people. Then check out Petfinder and learn what you can do to help pets in your area.
Still stumped on what you can do to give back this month then check out Volunteer Match. They provide resources for people who want to volunteer but are not sure how to start. You can search by city, causes, and if you don’t see anything you like. You can sign up for their email updates for new causes that’ll be a better fit.

Love these ideas for giving back in November! We try to do some kind of volunteer activity as a family every month and the holiday season is a great time to do even more.
Thank you, and that is great that your family tried to volunteer every month. It’s such a rewarding feeling giving back to the community.
It is always great to volunteer your services to help those in need.
Definitely, it really helps put things in perspective.
I really enjoyed reading this. Good tips. Makes you think! Nice blog by the way 😊
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the post.
These are great ideas. Last year, in early December, I bought a bunch of cheap fleece blankets and donated them to the animal shelter. It made me so happy to see the dogs and cats enjoying a nice warm spot to sleep.
Thank you, that’s awesome that you were able to give the animals at the shelter a nice warm place to sleep.
Such a warm idea for this time of the year. Our family usually gives food and clothes throughout the year. But I really like the idea of reading to children in hospitals. The smallest gestures can truly make someone’s day a bit brighter😁

Thank you, and that’s great. I usually do the same throughout the year, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to volunteer at my local animal shelter next year. That’s very true 😀
