Animal Crossing: New Horizon

When I think of relaxing games one of the first ones that come to mind is Animal Crossing. And with the recent release of Animal Crossing: New horizon you can have a relaxing island adventure. Like the other games in the franchise, it’s a charming game full of peaceful creativity. You’ll explore the island, collect resources, craft, embrace your green thumb, and make new friends. Animal Crossing: New Horizon is a great way to unwind after a long day, and with its calming music and cute aesthetic, you can’t help but feel relaxed after a few hours playing.

Sayonara Wild Hearts

As a 90s kid who grew up watching Sailor Moon, I love anything with magical girl elements. And Sayonara Wild Hearts is not only full of magical girl elements but a fun, pop euphoric soundtrack. As the heart of young women breaks, and the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly voiced by Queen Latifa appears in her dreams and leads her on a journey where she finds her others self: the masked bike called The Fool. In Sayonara Wild Hearts, you’ll travel through futuristic cities and electric forest, to find the harmony in the universe.

Wattam

From the creator of Katamari Damacy comes Wattam a 3-hour adventure game where you’ll play with over 100 different characters. Ranging from flowers, sushi, and even poop. The planet of Wattam was blasted across the galaxy by a huge explosion. You’ll help the mayor build stacks and chains that will create explosions and guide Wattam home.

Donut County

In Donut County you play as a raccoon with a smartphone app that controls a whole in the ground. Every time you swallow something up the hole grows a little bigger. There are challenges you complete but for the most part, it’s pretty simple. And it doesn’t punish the player for doing things wrong instead, let’s them enjoy the chill soundtrack, charming art style, and humor.

Firewatch

It’s always nice to find a game that allows you to get invested in the story and take a break from what’s worrying you. And Firewatch is a great game to do that with. It’s not complicated and is narrative-driven, so you can easily invest in the story. It’s a mystery game that takes place in Wyoming. You play as a man named Henery a fire lookout, with his only connection to the outside world being a handheld radio. But when something strange starts to draw him out of the lookout, you’ll explore the wild, unknown environment, face questions, and make choices that can either build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

Untitled Goose Game

Even though this game is all about causing chaos for a  peaceful village, it’s still a relaxing experience. You play as goose who’s let loose in the village with a to-do list of ways to annoy the people of the village. You’ll scare them, take their things and drop them in the canal. What helps make this game relaxing is there’s no real threat.  And it’s a fun way to blow off some steam at the end of a hectic day.

Not all video games are fast-paced, action-packed adventures. Some have simple plots, calming soundtracks, and easy gameplay that provide the player with a relaxing experience. And after a long busy, sometimes the most relaxing way to end the day is as a goose terrorizing a village. What are some of your favorite chill games to play when you want to unwind?
