Spring Break: New Orleans

Spring semester is nearing the end and I only have a few more weeks left of school. Back in March, I had a chance to take a break and spend some time in New Orleans for my spring break. It was a short trip but fun nonetheless and a nice break away from schoolwork.

New Orleans

I decided to go down to New Orleans for spring break this year. It’s been on my bucket list for a while and plane tickets weren’t too bad. I didn’t get to stay as long as I wanted to due to school. One of my instructors assigned homework over the break so I had to keep that in mind when planning my trip.

On day one in New Orleans, I hit the iconic Bourbon Street and walked around. There were different bars and restaurants to choose from. I ended up stopping at Saints and Sinners and had their crawfish. It came as a recommendation from a local and did not disappoint. The crawfish packed a lot of heat and flavor and was fresh. It was way different from what I was used to getting back in Denver. It was easy to peel and the meat of the crawfish was tender, juicy, and full of flavor.

The next day, I grabbed coffee at a nearby cafe called the French Truck Cafe. It was a cute shop and I had their New Orleans iced coffee. Which is roasted coffee grounds and roasted chicory. It had a smooth taste to it that I enjoyed. After coffee and a cheese puff, I then made my way over to the famous Cafe du Monde to try their beignets.

Next, I went on a swamp tour and saw raccoons, snakes, and alligators. After the swamp tour, I returned to the French Quarter to find a place to eat. I ended up settling on the Oceana Grill where I enjoyed seafood gumbo and a shrimp po’ boy. Both were really good. to end off my trip I did a Haunted history tour and learned about the haunted history of New Orleans. Which was neat.

What’s next?

My next trip is to London and Dublin. I’m going as a part of a study abroad program with my school. I’ll be going to learn about their healthcare system and do some sightseeing. It’ll be my first time going overseas. So I’m both excited and nervous about it. Now that the semester is over I’m focused on preparing for my trip this month.
