Why Scented Soy Candles?

Soy candles are a natural alternative to traditional paraffin candles, burning longer and cleaner. They can be infused with essential oils for a relaxing aroma, and you can get creative with decorative jars, labels, and even color combinations.

What You’ll Need:

  • Soy wax flakes (available at craft stores or online)
  • Candle wicks (cotton or wood wicks work great)
  • Essential oils or fragrance oils (choose holiday scents like cinnamon, vanilla, peppermint, or pine)
  • Heatproof containers (mason jars, teacups, vintage tins, or decorative jars)
  • Double boiler or microwave-safe container for melting wax
  • Wooden skewer or pencil (for securing the wick)
  • Scissors (to trim the wick)
  • Optional: candle dye for color

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Containers: Start by choosing the containers you want to use. Mason jars, vintage teacups, or any heat-resistant container work beautifully for candles. Clean and dry them thoroughly.

Attach the Wick: Place the candle wick in the center of the container. To keep the wick in place, you can use a dab of hot glue at the bottom of the wick tab. Use a wooden skewer or pencil to balance the wick across the top of the container, keeping it upright and centered.

Melt the Soy Wax: Melt the soy wax using a double boiler or microwave. If you’re using the microwave, heat the wax in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until fully melted. For a double boiler, stir the wax as it melts over low heat.

Add Fragrance: Once the wax has melted, remove it from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Add 10-20 drops of essential oils or fragrance oils, depending on how strong you want the scent to be. Stir the wax gently to distribute the fragrance evenly.

Pour the Wax: Carefully pour the scented wax into your prepared containers. Be sure to leave some space at the top. Continue to hold the wick in place, or use a wick holder to keep it centered as the wax cools.

Let the Candle Set: Allow the candles to cool and solidify at room temperature for several hours or overnight. Once the candles are completely set, trim the wick to about ¼ inch above the wax surface.

Decorate and Personalize: Now comes the fun part—personalizing your candles! You can tie festive ribbons around the jars, add custom labels with the scent and a holiday message, or even paint the containers to match the recipient’s decor.
