College life is an exciting time where you will discover new freedoms and opportunities. But making the transition from high school to college isn’t an easy one for everyone. College classes are way harder than high school classes. You also have a lot more responsibilities to manage. Plus the stressful experience of living with roommates and being away from home for the first time. All this can make a major impact on your mental health. Depression is common among college students so you must manage your mental health. It’s one of the main reasons students drop out of college and can be a gateway issue if left untreated.

What to do When You're Feeling Overwhelmed

The feeling of being overwhelmed is something that kind of creeps up on us very slowly, then hits like a ton of bricks. It often starts subtle making us feel rushed. Then once we’re pushed out of our comfort zones we start losing control bit by bit. We then lose sight of what we are trying to do and most importantly we end up struggling with what we need to get done.  As a result, we become negative and start complaining and blaming everyone and everything, but ourselves. It can often leave us feeling stressed and depressed at times. When you find yourself feeling like you can’t handle or cope with circumstances give one of these coping methods a try.

Dealing with depression requires action but, when your feeling depressed taking action might be a difficult thing to do. When your feeling depressed, stressed, or anxious you may feel drained, hopeless, and a lack of drive. Making it difficult to take the steps needed to feel better. It’s important to start small and build from there. Feeling better isn’t an overnight process it takes time but, you can get there making positive choices. Take it one day at a time and soon you’ll find yourself lifted out of the fog of depression and feeling happier, healthier, and more hopeful. Next time you find yourself feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed try one of these coping strategies.
