The Joy of Being a Book Nerd: A Book Lover's Tag

There are people who enjoy reading.

And then there are book nerds.

You know who you are.

Your bookshelf is probably overflowing. Your TBR list somehow keeps getting longer, and you’ve probably bought books faster than you can read them. Maybe you’ve even bought another copy of a book you already own simply because you loved the cover.

Being a book nerd isn’t just about reading.

It’s about the stories we carry with us, the characters we become attached to, the worlds we disappear into, and all the wonderfully strange habits that come with loving books.

So, let’s have some fun.

📚 The Book Nerd Tag

Grab your favorite drink, find your coziest reading spot, and answer these questions. You can answer all of them or simply pick the ones that speak to you.

And yes, you’re absolutely allowed to add your own.

What book made you fall in love with reading?

Think back to the book that made you realize, “Oh. I love this.”

Maybe it was something you read as a child. Perhaps it was a fantasy novel, mystery, graphic novel, or something completely unexpected.

Whatever it was, tell us about the book that started it all.

What book could you read over and over?

We all have that one book.

You’ve already read it, you know what happens, and you might even remember some of the dialogue. Yet somehow, you keep coming back to it.

Sometimes a familiar story feels like visiting an old friend.

What’s your favorite genre?

Fantasy?

Horror?

Science fiction?

Romance?

Mystery?

Historical fiction?

Thriller?

Nonfiction?

Graphic novels?

If you’re anything like me, choosing just one might be impossible.

What’s a popular book you couldn’t get into?

Let’s be honest: not every popular book is going to work for everyone.

Maybe you couldn’t connect with the characters. Perhaps the pacing drove you crazy. Or maybe you simply found yourself staring at the page thinking:

“Why does everyone love this?”

That’s okay. Reading is personal.

What’s a book you think everyone should read?

This is your chance to become the literary friend who says:

“Trust me. Just read it.”

What book do you wish more people would discover?

Who is your favorite fictional character?

More importantly, why?

Is it because they’re brave, funny, mysterious, or completely unhinged?

Maybe they’re morally questionable, but you love them anyway.

No judgment here.

What’s your biggest book-buying weakness?

New releases?

Special editions?

Used bookstores?

Pretty covers?

Signed copies?

Box sets?

Books by your favorite author?

For some of us, the biggest weakness is simply walking into a bookstore.

You know you don’t need another book.

Then again, you also know you’re leaving with one.

Do you finish every book you start?

Are you a “DNF and don’t feel guilty” person?

Or do you feel personally obligated to finish every book you’ve ever started?

Some readers can happily walk away from a book they’re not enjoying. Others will suffer through 400 pages simply because they started it.

Which one are you?

Physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

Or all three?

There is something special about holding a physical book, while ebooks are wonderfully convenient. Audiobooks offer something different, especially when a great narrator brings a story to life.

Fortunately, book nerds don’t have to choose.

We can collect all the formats.

Where is your favorite place to read?

Bed?

Couch?

A cozy chair?

Coffee shop?

Library?

Outside?

On vacation?

Or basically anywhere you can get five uninterrupted minutes?

Do you read multiple books at once?

Some people believe in reading one book at a time.

Others have a bedroom book, a living room book, a Kindle book, an audiobook, and maybe another book waiting in the car.

Somehow, they’re all completely different genres.

What’s your favorite bookish comfort?

Maybe it’s a cup of coffee and a book.

Perhaps it’s a rainy afternoon, a warm blanket, a quiet library, or a candle burning nearby.

For others, it might simply be the feeling of opening a brand-new book for the first time.

What’s a book that made you cry?

No explanation required.

Some stories hit places we didn’t realize were vulnerable. As readers, we sometimes become completely emotionally invested in fictional people who don’t even exist.

And somehow, we thank the author for it.

What’s a book that genuinely changed your perspective?

Some books entertain us.

Others stay with us.

Maybe a story changed the way you see relationships, grief, friendship, identity, history, mental health, or the world around you.

Those are often the books we remember long after we’ve forgotten the plot of everything else we read that year.

Do you judge books by their covers?

Be honest.

Of course we say we shouldn’t.

Still, a gorgeous cover can catch our attention from across the bookstore. Suddenly, we’re holding it, reading the description, and convincing ourselves that we absolutely need it.

The cover got us.

What’s your most embarrassing bookish habit?

Buying books faster than you can read them?

Reading until 2 a.m.?

Talking about fictional characters like they’re your friends?

Highlighting everything?

Refusing to bend the spine?

Having multiple copies of the same book?

Perhaps your TBR pile has officially become furniture.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without reading?

Sometimes life gets busy.

Work, relationships, stress, responsibilities, and everything else can push reading to the bottom of the list.

That’s okay.

Being a reader doesn’t mean you have to read every day. You can always come back.

What’s currently on your TBR?

This is where things get dangerous.

Because there’s always another book.

And another.

And another.

The TBR pile is never finished.

It simply grows.

Which fictional world would you want to live in?

This is the important question.

Hogwarts?

Middle-earth?

Westeros?

Narnia?

The Shire?

A galaxy far, far away?

The Discworld?

Before choosing, though, we should probably consider whether we’d actually survive there.

What’s the best thing about being a book nerd?

For me, it’s the ability to disappear into another world for a while.

Books can make us laugh, cry, think, question things, learn, escape, and sometimes see ourselves in ways we didn’t expect.

They introduce us to people who never existed and places we’ve never visited. Yet somehow, those stories can still feel incredibly real.

That’s the magic of books.

Your Turn

Now it’s your turn.

Pick a few questions—or answer all 20—and share your answers.

Tell me:

What book made you fall in love with reading?

What’s currently sitting on your TBR?

And which fictional world would you move into if you could?

Most importantly, tag me so I can read your answers and another book nerd and invite them to join in!

Because there is no such thing as having too many books.

There is only having not enough bookshelves.

And honestly?

That’s a problem we’re willing to have.
