Now that I have a new stocking to hang by the fireplace, I need some new ornaments to hang on my Christmas tree. And to continue with my theme of video game-related Christmas decor. I decided to go old school with some 8-bit felt Christmas ornaments. To keep it simple, I went with characters and shapes that would be easy to trace and cut-out. So they’re simple to make, and since they’re no-sew, you don’t have to drag out the sewing machine. They also make a great gift to give to a geeky friend. So if you’re looking for an easy DIY project and you’re a fan of old school games. then these 8-bit felt Christmas ornaments are for you.
Why buy a Christmas stocking this year when you can make your own. And have one inspired by the bell bag in Animal Crossing instead of a generic boring stocking. This year I’m shaking things up and ditching my traditional holiday decor. And, making geeky video games inspired holiday decor. And to kick things off I starting with a new stocking to hang by the fireplace with care. Animal Crossing is one of my favorite games to play when I’m looking to relax. It’s simple, cute, and creative. You can arrange things to fit your taste and there’s no shortage of things to do in town once you’re settled. I’m looking forward to the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons on Switch and checking out Tom Nook’s new business venture. But until then I’ve got a cute new Animal Crossing inspired Christmas stocking. So if you’re a fan too and new to sewing then this sewing project is for you.
Over the years there’s been a lot of negative talk about video games but, playing video games is a great coping tool for dealing with stress. They can give us a safe and fun outlet for developing our emotional awareness and coping skills.
In most games, players are rewarded for being able to manage their emotions and work toward solutions when faced with stressful situations. When players meet a difficult task they must seek out a resolution to the negative feelings or seek support from other players. We can take the same strategies used in playing video games and use them in our own lives. Developing awareness and using it to support emotional balance which is a big part of healthy coping.
