Dealing with depression requires action but, when your feeling depressed taking action might be a difficult thing to do. When your feeling depressed, stressed, or anxious you may feel drained, hopeless, and a lack of drive. Making it difficult to take the steps needed to feel better. It’s important to start small and build from there. Feeling better isn’t an overnight process it takes time but, you can get there making positive choices. Take it one day at a time and soon you’ll find yourself lifted out of the fog of depression and feeling happier, healthier, and more hopeful. Next time you find yourself feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed try one of these coping strategies.

Eat Well Balanced Diet

What you eat can impact how you feel. Try to limit the amount of junk food you eating and support a healthy diet by filling your plate with whole foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Healthy foods can boost your mood so next time your feeling depressed avoid the junk and reach for a healthy snack instead.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Not getting enough sleep can have a strong effect on your mood. During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function when you don’t get a good night’s rest your body isn’t able to repair and restore itself. Be sure you getting to bed at a reasonable time and getting any adequate amount of sleep each night.

Limit Alcohol and Caffeine

Limit your consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Too much Alcohol, Energy drinks, and soda can aggravate anxiety and trigger panic attacks. Next time your feeling stressed, depressed, or overwhelmed have a glass of water or a cup of tea instead.

Exercise Daily

Exercise is one of the best ways to deal with depression. Not only is it good for your mental health but, also your physical health. Take your mind off your worries and go for a jog, walk, bike ride, or dance three or five days a week for 30 minutes.

Take A Break

Take a step back from a problem clear your head next time when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Try practicing yoga, meditation, or listen to music. Then revisit the problem with a fresh perspective and ask yourself “is it as bad as I think?”

Maintain Positive Attitude

When you’re depressed it’s easy to look at all the negatives and dwell on them. Rather than focus on the negative thought make an effort to replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

Learn What Triggers Your Anxiety

Try to figure out what causes your stress is it school, family,  work, or something else you can name. Next time your feeling stressed or overwhelmed write it in a journal and look for a pattern. Identify your triggers and figure out ways that you can better manage the stress that comes with the activity.

Bad days come and go and if you focus on nothing but the bad you’re going to continue to have many bad days. Learn to let go of the bad because the more you hang on to the heavier it gets. We can’t change the past our only hope is to learn from it and move forward. So the next time you find yourself hanging on to something you can’t change practice coping skills.

Talk To Someone

The very nature of depression makes it difficult for people to reach out and ask for help. The tendency with depression is to isolate or withdraw yourself from friends and family. It’s important to reach out when your feeling depressed because dealing with depression on your own makes it hard to keep up a positive perspective. Next time your feeling depressed or overwhelmed tell your friends and family how your feeling and let them know how they can help. You can also talk to a counselor or therapist for professional help.
