August Wrap-Up

Hello September & Goodbye August

I had an eventful August I got to hang out with my little sister, see one of my favorite bands, and go to Kansas City’s VegFest. My sister typical visits once a year during the summer while she’s off from school. We always have a great time and do a lot of fun stuff together. I’ve been very busy lately with buying a house and work so it was nice to take a break from that. And get out and do something fun with my sister. I was sad to see her go after all the fun we had but, I can’t wait to see her again next summer and show her the new house.

Ninja Sex Party Presents Tour De Force

I don’t go to concerts partly because of how exhausting they can be and I usually don’t have someone to go with.  But, when I found out that Ninja Sex Party (NSP) was coming to Kansas City for the first time. I just had to go. I asked my little sister if she’d like to visit and go to the concert with me. And she accepted my invitation.

It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. The energy of the bands and the crowd was positive and fun. It was like everyone was just so happy to be there and share the experience. My sister said that it’s probably the most interesting concert she’ll ever go to. Not many people can say they went to a concert that had dinosaurs, a band from space, and a laser fight.

Three bands performed Planet Booty, Tupper Ware Remix Party (TWRP), and NSP. I had never heard of Planet Booty before the concert but fell in love with their music instantly. I’ve listened to their album Naked on repeat since the concert. Before the concert, I’ve heard some of their music mainly songs off their album Together Through Time. But, after the concert, I dug deeper into their discography and started listening to some of their older albums as well.

Ninja Sex Party which is made up of Danny Sexbang and Ninja Brian with TWRP as their backing band. Danny sounded just as he does on their album which is very rare in today’s time of auto-tune. They performed some oldies but goodies, covers, and some songs from their new album Cool Patrol.

I, of course, had to support one of my favorite bands and created a Danny Sexbang inspired dress. After the show, we ended up waiting in line for an hour just to buy merch I bought the tour shirt and a signed poster. When we were walking out to order an Uber no other than the silent but deadly Ninja Brian was outside talking with fans. And of course, I had to get a photo with him.

Exploring Kansas City

While my little sister was in town we went exploring around Kansas City. And check out a few local restaurants and coffee shops. We had lunch at Boru Ramen I had the Mushroom Ramen and my sister had Chicken Shio Ramen.  My favorite part of my ramen was the pickled shiitake mushrooms. I plan on going back someday because I want to try their bento boxes.

Once we finished our ramen we went next door to Crow’s Coffee and I got my usual matcha latte and a muffin and my sister had a cappuccino.

After that, we then just walked around Kansas City and looked at some of the graffiti in the crossroads district. We stopped at Tapcade and I had an impossible burger while my sister tried one of their drinks.

After enjoying the air conditioning of Tapacade we stopped at Messenger Coffee before making our way to the Kansas City Public Library. Messenger’s Coffee is huge and has three floors I had a spirit tea and an oatmeal raisin cookies.
On our walk to the library, we discovered more coffee shops and saw people riding the Bird electric scooters. We didn’t get a chance to visit the inside of the library. We got there a few minutes after it closed for the day. But, the outside is designed to look like a bookshelf even the steps look like books.

I had a great time hanging out with my little sister. She stayed for four days and we did a lot in those four days. I tend to do things alone so it was nice to have company.

Kansas City VegFest

Last year I went to VegFest in Nashville since I was living in Tennessee. So this year I went to the Kansas City VegFest. It’s only their second year hosting a VegFest event so it was small but, I’m sure it’ll grow over the years. The event was free and takes at City Market Park west of City Market in the River Market district of Kansas City. I walked around or about an hour and checked out the different vendors and ate lots of delicious foods.

VegFest offered a variety of vendors to choose from. I skipped breakfast so that I would have plenty of room for plant-based goodness. After making my way around the event I ended up having lunch at Matties Vegan Eats and had their nachos. They were delicious I got the mild one with tofu skins. Packed full of flavor and just the right amount of spice. I was tempted to get a second bowl but, I didn’t want to overdo it. And, there were more vendors that I wanted to sample.

Then for dessert, I had soft serve topped with strawberries from Processed with VSCO with a5 presetCoconutz. They also had smoothies but I’m not a big fan of smoothies but their soft serve was delicious. They had three flavors chocolate, vanilla, and lemon-lime. It’s completely vegan, organic, and there are no GMOs It’s been a long time since I’ve had soft serve. If I have ice cream I typically reach for Nada Moo. But, Coconutz Soft is amazing in quality and taste. I know that I’m going to be thinking about it for a while.

I got a new bumper sticker for my car and grabbed a shirt from The Herbivore Clothing Company.

My August was pretty eventful But, the best part was hanging out with my little sister and seeing NSP in concert. For September I don’t have any plans other than moving to the new house. I would like to visit the farmers market in full and check out the restaurants and different vendors they have to offer.
