  • craft felt (snowflake)
  • hot glue gun or fabric glue

Instructions:
Headband
  1. First, trace and cut out the pattern onto your fleece and craft felt. Next, take the two pieces that will be used for the headband and pin the right side together. Then sew around the outer edge and leave and a small opening for turning. Before turning trim corners and excess fabric but be careful not to cut the stitching. After that turn your headband inside out and seal the opening by tucking it in and sewing over the top. And set aside.fleece snowflake headband diy
  2. Next, test your headband to see where you like the button and buttonholes to go and make with a washable marker. Then take the button and place it where you’d like it to go then draw a line above and below it. Remove the button and draw a line connecting the 2 marks.
  3. Then change the presser foot to the clear buttonhole foot. You can remove the foot using the latch on the back of the machine. Set your machine to the buttonhole settings, follow the instructions in your manual, and make a buttonhole corresponding to the lines you marked in the center of the flap. You will likely have to decrease the stitch length and change stitch patterns as you make each section of the buttonhole. Once you’ve sewn your buttonholes cut then open with a seam ripper.
  4. Then, sew the button onto the front of the pouch, underneath your buttonhole. Use a doubled thread and hand needle, and sew through each hole twice. If using apply the velcro dots to hold down the flaps and set aside. Otherwise, move onto making the snowflake.
Snowflake
  1. First, take the triangles and put a dab of glue on the 2 bottom corners and fold in. Then put a dab of glue where the 2 corners meet and pinch it together. And do that will all 6 triangles.
  2. Next, connect all the triangles in a circle by gluing them side by side and connecting both ends and glue to form a circle. Once you’ve glued them together glue it to the small circle and then onto the snowflake. Then if you have a small opening cut a small piece of felt to cover it or leave it as it.
  3. After that, you can decorate your snowflake with the rhinestones. Once you’ve finished your snowflake then glue it onto your headband. And enjoy your cute new fleece snowflake headband.
Notes:
  • Depending on your machine, you may make a buttonhole slightly differently. So be sure to consult your manual.
  • Here’s a tip to keep from cutting the stitching when opening the buttonhole. Place a pin at the top of the buttonhole then cut open the buttonhole with a seam ripper.  The pin will keep you from cutting too far up.
  • If you’d like to add a bit of extra detail to the headband. Topstitch around the outer edge after you’ve turned it.
  • If you don’t have a buttonhole tool, just use velcro or sewing hooks and eyes instead.
