Indie Games Coming to the Nintendo Switch

This past week Nintendo announced in their Nindies showcase what indie games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch this year. They announced over 15 games during their live stream some that have been seen before along with some that haven’t. If you missed the presentation you can find all the games announced during the live stream along with a short description of each title below.

Cuphead

The award-winning run and gun game is coming to the Nintendo switch on April 18, 2019, and is available for preorder now.

Overland

A new take on the end of the world narrative from the creator of Canabalt. It’s a squad focus turn-based strategy game where you are faced with difficult choices. The further west you venture the strange things get and all levels, road maps, and characters are randomly generated. So every playthrough offers a fresh take. Look for it this fall.

My Friend Pedro

One man is ready to take out anyone in his all while guided by a self-aware banana named Pedro. Drops as a console exclusive for Nintendo Switch this June.

Neo Cab

You play as Lina, the last human driver on the neon-drenched streets of Los Ojos. When your friend and only lifeline mysteriously vanishes, you’ll need to use wits and empathy to survive. Look for it this summer.

The Red Lantern

You are the musher training for the Iditarod race with your trusty crew of dogs. You must navigate the Alaskan wilderness to find your way home. Along the way you’ll tend to your dogs, mend your own wounds, and hunt to survive. And with the Nintendo switch’s gyro controls, you can look around the environment with a simple turn of the system in handheld mode. Coming later this year.

Darkwood

Darkwood is an unforgiving survival horror with a procedurally generated, open world. By blending RPG, roguelike, and adventure elements together with a challenging difficulty, Darkwood aims to please players craving for a deep and rewarding experience. Available on the Switch in May.

Kantana Zero

You play as the well-trained assign Dragon in this fast-paced neo-noir action platformer. It focuses on tight, instant-death acrobatic combat, and a dark 80’s neon aesthetic. With your trusty katana, time manipulation drug Chronos,  and the rest of your assassin’s arsenal. Fight your way through a fractured city, and take back what’s yours. This game will be available on April 18 but is available for preorder now.

RAD

This is a 3D action rogue-like set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has faced armageddon not once, but twice. You play as a teenage protagonist, you must venture into an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures. It is here that you will find the solution to heal the world and transform the cracked, barren landscape into a lush source of new life. Look for it this summer.

Creature in the Well

A top-down action-adventure game inspired by the fine art of pinball. It takes place in the desert where a giant has traped the town in a never-ending sand storm. Play as the last engineer tasked with powering up the giant weather machine this summer.

Bloodroots

Betrayed by his partners and left for dead, Mr. Wolf is hell-bent on enacting his revenge. Thankfully for Mr. Wolf, in Bloodroots the world is your weapon. In this relentless action game, you’ll choreograph spectacular, ultra-violent combos by making use of everything around you, from hatchets to ladders, to carrots. Improvise as Mr. Wolf fights his way to the center of the mystery this summer.

Pine

Pine is an open-world action-adventure simulation game. Take the role of Hue, a scared but brave adolescent belonging to one of the last remaining human tribes on the island, fighting for the survival of their species. Find your way to a new home to thrive and survive as a species. Coming to the Nintendo Switch this August.

SUPER CRATE BOX

Vlambeer’s SUPER CRATE BOX is coming to bring back the glory of the golden arcade age when all that really mattered was getting on that high score list. Grab your baseball cap and loosen your pants, it’s time to fight endless hordes of enemies and collect every weapon crate you can. Prepare for an arcade delight with tight controls, refreshing game mechanics, cracking retro art, and a terribly hip chiptune soundtrack. It will be released on the Nintendo Switch this April.

Nuclear Throne

Nuclear Throne is an action roguelike-like by Vlambeer. It’s about mutants fighting their way through a post-apocalyptic world. The radioactive waste in the world allows mutants to get ahead by mutating new limbs on the fly.  With an abundant availability of powerful weaponry to help in your quest to become ruler of the Wasteland one. And is out now for the Nintendo Switch.

Vlambeer Arcade: Ultra Bugs

A collection of games that will have a growing catalog over time. Starting with Ultra Bugs a fast-paced high score centered game were you pilot a ship to fight endless space bugs. As you defeat boss monsters you will unlock enemy DNA that you can use to customize your ship. Vlambeer Arcade with Ultra Bugs is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Swimsanity

A multiplayer underwater shooter with action-packed Co-Op and Versus game modes, all supported by online and local play. You play as our hero Mooba, who uses a variety of unique power-ups and weapons to survive in this aquatic world. It will be available on the Switch this summer.

Blaster Master Zero 2

The long-awaited squeal to the blaster master zero game. It takes place months after the events of Blaster Master Zero. And it’s available now for the Nintendo Switch.

Stranger Things 3 The Game

Explore Hawkins, solve puzzles, and team up with a friend in local co-op to battle the emerging evils of The Upside Down as one of twelve playable characters from the hit original series. This game launches July 4th the same day as the 3rd season on Netflix

Cadence of Hyrule-Crypt of the Necrodancer

In the latest rhythmic action-adventure from Brace Yourself Games, you can enjoy the gameplay of Crypt of the NecroDancer in the setting of The Legend of Zelda series. It’s scheduled to launch this spring.
