In Colorado, it’s finally starting to cool down. September brought with it cooler weather and the start of fall. I’m a few weeks in school, and I’m finally starting to get into a grove. With September came adventures around Denver. My August was more focused on both school and work. Which left me with little time to focus on myself. I’d go from being a student right to be an employee. Balance is key when managing your physical and mental health. If there’s no time for you and the things you enjoy, then you risk feeling burnt out. When you’re burnt out then you’re unable to perform at your best. In September I put focus into utilizing tools such as time blocking to ensure I was making the most of my time. That way I wasn’t feeling overwhelmed with both work and school. As well as, allow time for myself. Which meant I could get out and do have some fun.
A Taste of Colorado
I kicked off the month of September with a trip to the A Taste of Colorado. This year it was held on the 16th Street Mall on Labor Day weekend. It was about 3 blocks of food and drinks, music, and vendors. The first block was focused on food and drinks. They had a few food trucks to chose from. I went Originals by Greek and had a vegetarian gyro. It was my first time having a gyro with plant-based gyro meat, and it was delicious. After I ate my gyro I check out the distills in the city. Which feature tastings of local distillers. You chose from unlimited tastings for $20 or 5 tastings for $5. I went the 5, they also gave you a chip so that you could vote on your favorite. There was one that stood out to me and earned my vote. Mile High Pie Moonshine which had a delicious apple pie moonshine. Which tasted like a bite of apple pie. After I walked around, and check out the live music and vendors. Before heading home and calling it a day.
Herman Gulch
I had put hiking on hold because of the wildfires and the smoke it brings. When it finally started to let up I got together with my hiking buddy and we went to Herman Gulch. The weather was perfect for hiking, it was a nice and cool crisp fall morning. The leaves on the aspens were starting to change, and summer was making its exit. We hiked a little over seven miles to the lake and back. It was nice to be out in nature again after a hiatus.
Oktober Fest
Oktober fest was a spare of the moment. One of my coworkers reached out to see if I’d be interested in going with her. I’d never been to one and was interesting in seeing what it was all about. To enter it was one line after another, which I thought was funny. There was a line for wristbands, then a line to activate them, then another line where they check your ID and give you another wristband. Once that was all done, we could finally enjoy the event. They had different food and drink stands, a DJ, and a keg throwing contest.
First solo Concert
When I was younger, I would go to concerts all the time. When I got older, it became something I did less and less. Mainly because I didn’t have anyone to go with. After a year of staying inside, I wanted to get out and do more when possible. This included concerts. When I say Alec Benjamin was coming to Dever I thought it would be a great opportunity to experience my first solo concert. Before the concert, I had some anxiety about going solo. I kept telling myself that I’d have a good time. Once I got there, I was fine. The concert was amazing both Anson Seabre and Alec Benjamin were great. Overall, I had a good time and could see myself going to more concerts solo.
October Plans
I’m all about October, and I’ve got a few things planned for the month. I plan on going to the Magic of the Jack O’ Laterns, 13th Floor Haunted House, and a fall hike to see the autumn leaves before the trees go bare. Outside of that, I want to maintain the balance that I have going with work and school. Though I do feel overwhelmed with things at times. I’m not feeling as bad as I did when I first started school. This means I’ll have an easier time maintaining good grades and staying on top of school work. As a result, I’ll be able to enjoy fall and keep burnout away.
