What we experience rather it be happiness or suffering is dependent on our current state of consciousness. We have the ability to heal, transform, or grow at any time. One day you’re wealthy, taking exotic trips surrounded by all the lavishes life has to offer. All of that can be gone in an instant, and you’re left feeling lost, empty, and depressed. True freedom, genuine joy, and happiness come when you stop searching outside of yourself and start looking within. By letting go of limiting beliefs and being present.
Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs are a set of standards we’ve set for ourselves. They’re rooted in what we think we should be doing or who we think we should be. For example, at the age of 40, a person may set the belief that they should have their life completely together. That they’re not allowed to be growing and still figuring things out. They feel they should have a high credit score, own property, and have a career they can support a family with. Obtaining that isn’t something that’ll bring them true joy, it’s what they believe they should have. It’s entered their mind due to their peers, society, and parental influence. When in reality, life isn’t about meeting a set of expectations. That ideal life we’ve deemed as the pinnacle of happiness may not be what makes you happy.
Letting go
On the path to happiness, the first step is letting do of the limiting beliefs that are holding us back. Success doesn’t always equal happiness. Luxury cars, fancy homes, or thousands in the bank. It’ll only bring temporary joy into your life. Once the high wears off then you’re searching for the next thing to boost your mood.
Sit down and write a list of things that make you happy. Then write a list of things that you feel would make you happy. Lastly, compare the two lists. What you may find is the two lists don’t align with one another. When something doesn’t align what your path to happiness it’s best to let it go. To focus on the things that do bring happiness into your life.
Pursuing Happiness
Once you’ve let go of what’s holding you back from true happiness. You can turn your focus within and begin to cultivate the things that bring you happiness. If it’s spending time with family and friends, you’ll find yourself able to do it more often. Since you no longer pursuing things that no longer serve you. Don’t focus so much on the journey, but on the feeling of joy you get from being in the moment, and being free from the burdens that once weighed you down.
