10 Daily Habits for a Happy Healthy Life
“Depending on what they are, our habits will either make us or break us. We become what we repeatedly do.” – Sean Covey

Change doesn’t happen without action. Small steps may seem insignificant when you look at the big picture. But small positive actions are what develop lasting meaningful habits, that’ll make a difference in your life. So here are some healthy daily habits to pick up if you haven’t already that’ll help you live a healthy happy life.

Make your bed After you get up

I’ve noticed on the days when I don’t make my bed, I end up getting right back in it. Make it a part of your morning routine to make your bed after getting out of it, so that you’re less likely to get back in. It’ll help you have a productive start to the day.

Don’t just set Goals

Setting goals is only the first step to achieving your goals, and you can’t achieve those goals if you don’t have a plan in place. For example, if your goal is to save money and no plan of how you’ll save money, then you’re likely to fail at your goal.  Instead of only setting goals follow them up with a plan. Make it a habit to set daily goals for yourself and plan out how you’ll achieve them. I like to do this right before bed so all I have to do is review it the morning, and get started.

Check-in with Yourself Often

Take a moment to pause throughout the day to check in with yourself and ask yourself how you’re feeling. By bringing awareness to what’s going on in your head, it helps bring you back to the moment and you can refocus.

Push Yourself

Push yourself out of your comfort zone, and try new things. We often settle into a routine or habits that prevent us from moving forward. Instead of staying stationary where it’s comfortable, push yourself to stay in pursuit of your goals and grow as a person.

Practice Self-care

Don’t forget to dedicate time to your wellbeing. Have a day each week where you practice self-care. It can look like putting together a budget, reading a self-help book, or hanging out with friends. Self-care is more than a trip to the spa, it’s about taking care of different aspects of your well-being.

Move your Body

It doesn’t matter if it’s a quick walk around the block, a trip to the gym, or a quick at-home workout. Taking a few minutes to get up and move your body is beneficial to both your physical and mental health.

Drink Plenty of Water

Replace soda and juices with a glass of water. There are far more health benefits to drinking a glass of water than there is to drinking something full of sugar. So stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily.

Take Breaks from Social Media

Take a break from the roller coaster that is social media, and do something offline for a while. I’ve noticed that social media can be overwhelming for me sometimes and a productivity killer. And some days I need a break from all the sharing, comments, and liking. Not everything is meant to be shared, and it’s ok to sign off for a while and do something that brings you joy offline.

Journal Often

Through journaling and reflective writing, we have the opportunity to express and process events and situations. It helps put things into perspective and gives us solutions for difficult situations. Each day we experience different ups and downs and journaling is a way to process those ups and downs so that we don’t become overwhelmed with them.  Make journaling a daily habit and use it as a way to not only combat stress but improve your problem-solving abilities.

Practice Gratitude

Exchange self-pity for gratitude and improve your mental strength. Instead of focusing on your shortcomings, recognize all that you have to be thankful for. We all have the ability to cultivate gratitude, instead of complaining about the things we don’t have. Implementing gratitude into your daily habits is one of the simplest ways to increase your satisfaction in life so that you can live a happy healthy life.

Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight and that it takes time to break old habits and replace them with new ones. So don’t get discouraged on those days when you slip back into old habits. Simply acknowledge it and keep moving forward. You’ll have both good and bad days, but long as you’re actively trying to practice healthy daily habits, you’ll be on the path towards a happy healthy life.
