Solo Exploring Las Vegas

With a new year comes a new set of goals for the year. One of my goals for the new year was to travel more, so I kicked off the new year with a trip to Las Vegas for the weekend. I’ve never been to Vegas before, but I was looking for cheap flights Vegas popped up. Then I found a round-trip plane ticket for under $200 and decided to spend part of my winter break in Vegas. I stayed for a total of 3 nights in Vegas. I felt it was enough time to explore Vegas and cross some items off my to-do list. My stay in Vegas was fun and I  was able to do everything on my list. So here’s how I spent my time in Vegas.

Las Vegas to-do list

  • Visit the Welcome to Las Vegas sign
  • Walk the Vegas Strip
  • Try 303 in the cut
  • Visit Meow Wolf Omega Mart
  • Check out AREA15
  • Bellagio water show
  • Breakfast at Eggslut
  • See a Cirque du Soliel show
  • Eat at Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips
  • Have a Doughnut from Pinkbox
  • See the “Volcano” fire show at Mirage

Day 1

Gordon Ramsay Fish and ChipsIt was a smooth and short plane ride from Denver to Vegas. I left the cold and snow of Denver for the warm sunny weather of Las Vegas. After dropping my stuff off in my hotel room. It was time to hit the strip and made my way to the Welcome to Vegas sign for a picture. I stayed at The LINQ and it is a long walk from there to the sign. Instead of catching an Uber, I decided to walk. That way I could walk the strip and see the different restaurants and shops.

On my way back from the sign I stopped at the hotel New York New York to grab a ticket to Cirque du Soliel’s Mad Apple and lunch at Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips. Which was delicious, and the best fish and chips I’ve ever had.  After lunch, I settled into my hotel before heading to Bellagio to see the Bellagio water show on my way to Mad apple.

Mad apple was a fun show to watch. It had acrobats, a magician, and comedy. I really enjoyed the comedy of Harrison Greenbaum. He pushed the envelope with his comedy and sprinkled a little magic into his act. The show ended late so I headed back to my hotel for some rest.

Day 2

Eggslut

On day two I kicked off the day with breakfast at Egg Slut. When I got to The Cosmopolitan I didn’t see it and ended up wandering around for about ten minutes until I found it on the second floor. The line was long but worth it. I got the Fairfax and their hashbrowns. I didn’t care for the hashbrowns but loved the sandwich. The sandwich was a perfect blend of flavors. The eggs and the bun were light and fluffy, and the siracha mayo was a perfect blend of creamy and spicy.

No trip is complete without me trying a local doughnut shop. While I was in Vegas, I walked to Pinkbox located in Begalmania. I got the plain face doughcro which is a glazed croissant doughnut. The doughcro was light and fluffy and not overly sweet. It was well worth the long walk and price. I would have tried Begaelmania, but the wait was long, and I had a long walk back to my hotel. Plus there is one in the airport that I could try on my way back to Denver.

Once I got back to my hotel room I spent the rest of the day relaxing. For dinner, I had lunch at a nearby ramen shop called Ramen-ya. Located in the Bally’s Grand Bazaar. Ramen-ya is the sister restaurant to Katana-ya located in San Francisco, CA. I decided to try it on a whim and boy I’m sure glad that I did. I ordered vegetable ramen, and boy was it good. The broth was flavorful and it came with broccoli, tofu, carrots, and chives. It’s hard to find vegetarian options at ramen shops, so I’m glad I was able to find something in Las Vegas.

Day 3

My full day was chill. I slept in late and went to the nearest Mcdonald’s for breakfast. Then planned out what I wanted to do for the day. I went with Meow Wolf: Omega Mart and dinner at 303 in the cut. Since the food truck didn’t open until late I had a light lunch at Chipotle. 303 in the cut is the place I looked forward to trying the most. After seeing Keith Lee review it, I knew I couldn’t leave Las Vegas without trying their food. But before stuffing my face with one of their cheesecake sandwiches. I had to check out both AREA15 and Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart.

Area15AREA15 is Las Vegas’ newest experiential entertainment district offering live events, immersive activations, monumental art installations, extraordinary design elements, unique retail, bars and eateries, and much more. Located inside is Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart. A glitchy, interdimensional grocery store filled with mind-bending products, alien portals, and trippy dystopian landscapes that blend into a 52,000-square-foot interactive art installation. After exploring Meow Wolf, I had a couple of hours before they opened so I explored the surrounding area and found Paris Baguette a neighborhood bakery with a wide variety of goodies.

Then it was finally time to try 303 in the cut. I ended up waiting about an hour and fifteen minutes for my food but it was well worth it. The owner took the time to talk to each customer303inthecut and tell them about the menu which I liked. I ordered the green chile burrito without chicken, fries with a side of the 303 sauce and roasted garlic aioli, prickly pear cutty juice, and of course the cheesecake sandwich in the cut style with jam on the side. It was all delicious. The green chili in the burrito was cooked to perfection and the sauces were something I would have loved to bottle and take home with me. The 303 sauce was a perfect blend of spicy and tangy. While the roasted garlic aioli was spicy and packed with flavor.

After washing it down with my prickly pear cutty juice. It was time for the item I had been really waiting to try the cheesecake sandwich. It was pieces of cheesecake with cannoli cream in the middle and jam on the side. The cheesecake with the cannoli cream was good but the jam to it to the next level. It was hands down the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten. To finish out the night and my last day in Vegas I walked to The Mirage to the “Volcano” fire show. It wasn’t something that was originally on my list but was recommended by my Uber driver since they’re planning to close it.

Things I’d do Differently

Though I enjoyed my trip it wasn’t perfect. It was my first time in Vegas and I made a couple of mistakes. My first mistake was not doing research on what was going on during the time I was planning my trip. I ended up going during the weekend of a fight and CES so hotel prices were higher than normal. If I moved my trip earlier or later I would have saved money. Another mistake I made was wearing uncomfortable shoes. I did a lot of walking because I decided not to rent a car, and the shoes I wore were not made for walking and hurt my feet. Next time, I would wear a comfortable pair of shoes that are great for long-distance walking. Overall, I had a great time in Vegas despite making a couple of mistakes.

My next trip will be to New Orleans for my spring break, and I can’t wait to take you all along with me for the adventure.
