The Ugliness of Body Image

It’s common for someone to look in the mirror, see something they don’t like, and think negatively about their body. Having a negative body image affects millions of people struggling with eating disorders and body dysmorphic disorder. We all know that we shouldn’t spend so much time worrying about what’s on the outside, but don’t always know how to fix the problem. So we try to tell ourselves not to worry, to be happy with ourselves, and stop comparing ourselves to others, but, we still cling to those negative thoughts. Beating ourselves down about our bodies doesn’t help us. It creates problems ranging from mild displeasure to serve depression.

Constantly focusing on dieting, being thin, or having an overall dissatisfaction with your body are unhealthy ideas and actions. We come in contact with them at a young age then internalize them and pass on to others at a young age. It’s a toxic cycle that can lead to eating disorders but, this can be stopped. By encouraging a happy and healthy with your body by adjusting your mindset. We can encourage young people to have a positive body image. Here are some tips to help you prevent the spread of unhealthy views and encourage a positive body image.

My Struggles With Body Image and Disordered Eating

As I mentioned in my January 2019 wrap-up I wanted to go into more detail about my struggles with body image and disordered eating. My struggles tie into my weight loss journey and began when I had reached my weight goal.  At first, I felt good I had more confidence and my clothes fit comfortably. I was proud of myself to sticking to a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Most importantly I was healthier than I was prior.

Once the Holidays are over retailers are left with stock that was selling well during the holiday season but, in the week after. That stock is no longer needed and stores need to clear it off the shelves to make way for new stock. Many retailers have sales during the week between Christmas and the new year to make way for new stock. Which means you can take advantage of the savings and stock up on items and use them for the following year but, also throughout the year.
