July Wrap-Up

Unlike my last couple of month, July did not get off to a busy start, but I did have a lot of issues with my social media accounts. So instead of stressing about it, I signed off and worked on some offline projects. One of the projects I worked on was a teepee. It wasn’t my first time making a teepee I’ve made a small one for my sister’s cat. Which he did not like and resigns somewhere in my parent’s house. So I was confident in my ability to make a large one for myself.

Offline Projects

It started with a list, a plan, and a trip to a local home improvement store. And a couple of hours later I had a teepee. It sat in my garage for a couple of days before I could finish decorating it because we got hit with a string of thunderstorms. But as soon as the weather cleared up I back to work on it and added fairy lights, painted the outside and used some old blankets to make a sitting area. It’s one of my favorite places to hide and read or watch Netflix. If you’d like for me to do a full tutorial on how I made my teepee let me know in the comment section.

Outside of building a teepee, I also worked on some cosplays for DragonCon. I’m going with my sister this year, and we’re going to cosplay together. Since I’m flying to Atlanta, I wanted to pick characters that could easily fit into my suitcase. So I choose Velma, Jane Lane, and Isabelle. I haven’t gotten photos of any of my costumes yet, but I’ll post them to my Instagram as soon as I do so.

One of the goals I had in July was to go for a walk or run every Saturday. On the weekends, I typically feel overwhelmed with everything that’s happened over the week, so I have a hard sitting back and relaxing. Taking the time to clear my head and go for a walk or run was helpful. Afterward, I was able to sit back and do something I enjoyed, like watch Netflix or paint without feeling overwhelmed.

Water Lantern Festival

Another thing I did in July was going to my first every water lantern festival. Last year I went to the lights festival but wouldn’t be able to go again this year. But, when I saw an ad on Facebook for the water lantern festival I was excited that I could go to that instead.

July Wrap-Up RamenI left about an hour before the event started because I wanted to do some exploring. The area where the event was is an area that I’m not familiar with, so I wanted to see what it had to offer. I ended up finding a ramen shop called Komatsu Ramen and stopped there for dinner. Their food was delicious. I had a cucumber salad and vegan ramen before walking to the water lantern festival.

Once I got to the festival, I checked in and walked around the festival before picking a spot to sit. I then decorated my lantern and waited for it to get dark. There wasn’t much a current, so the lanterns collected on the edge of the river. But, it was still a lovely sight to see.Water Lantern Festival- July

August Plans

For August, the only major plan I have is DragonCon. So I’ll be working on finishing my cosplays, packing, and coordinating my travel plans. Instead of going for a walk every Saturday morning I’m going to do yoga instead. Even though I enjoyed my morning walks, I had to get up early to get a parking spot. So, by doing yoga instead, I get to sleep in later than 6 am. I’m also going to do more exploring of the city, during my last trip I realized there is still a lot I haven’t seen. So I want to get out of the house more and see more of what Kansas City has to offer.

How was your July? Did you do anything fun?
