Halloween is an exciting time for children, filled with treats, costumes, and fun. But, there is some serious safety risk when it comes to trick or treating on Haloween night. It’s important for both parents and adults accompanying children as well as those handing out candy or driving to keep on mind certain safety tips. So, let’s make sure they have a safe and fun holiday. By following these 5 Halloween safety tips.

Halloween Safety Tips

Costume Planning

When planning your child’s costume make sure that it’s bright and reflective. If it’s not considering adding reflective tape or dropping a glow stick into their trick or treat bag. Also, make sure that their costume fits well to avoid them tripping or getting tangled up in it. Consider replacing mask that limits or black visibility with non-toxic makeup. Just make sure you test it ahead of time to avoid any kind of allergic reactions on Halloween.

Passing Out Candy

If you’re passing out candy make sure your front yard, porch, and the driveway free of anything a child could trip over. So, make sure your home is well light and your walkways are free of wet leaves, toys, and decorations. And keep your pets in an area away from the front door so they don’t jump on or bite your trick or treaters.

Drive Safely

Trick or treat hours are typically between 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm so if you’re going to be out driving during this time. Make sure you’re being extra safe. Slow down in residential areas and keep an eye out for children crossing streets.

Trick or Treating

There is safety in numbers, so travel in groups and only visit areas you’re familiar with so you don’t get lost. Only visit homes with the porch light on and walk well light streets and sidewalks. Never cut across someone’s yard or use and alley. If there no sidewalk then walk on the edge of the roadway facing traffic. Hold on to a flashlight or glowstick to help others see where you are.

Candy Saftey

Wait until you get home to go through your child’s candy. Throw away any suspicious-looking, unwrapped, or expired candy.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween this year.
