Day 2

Saturday was my favorite day of Planet Comicon. I started the day super nervous and filled with anxiety because I was going to show Skottie Young my cosplay of one of his characters from his comic book series I Hate Fairyland. Skottie Young is an artist and writer who has done projects for Marvel and the comic book adaptations of the Oz books. He is one of my favorite comic book artist and writers and I’m a big fan of his series I Hate Fairyland.

Meeting Skottie Young

When I first saw his character Happy in issue 3 of I Hate Fairyland I knew that someday I was going to do a cosplay of her. Then when I saw Skottie Young was on the guest list for Planet Comicon I decided that it was going to be one of my cosplays for the convention. I have anxiety so doing something like that was really scary for me. I’m glad I didn’t let my anxiety get in the way of me meeting him.

The experience was amazing he’s a really nice guy. He told me that it was his first time seeing someone dress up as Happy. Took a photo of me, shook my hand, and thanked me for being a fan. And also signed my copy of Issue 1 of I Hate Fairyland. The whole experience was awesome and made all the stress I went through getting ready for the convention worth it.

Steven Universe Panel

After Meeting Skottie Young my husband and I made our way to get in line for Zach Callison the voice of Steven from Steven Universe. He took a selfie with the crowd and uploaded it to his Instagram you can spot me in the photo. I had him sign my Steven Pop and briefly spoke to him before rushing over to the great hall to get in line for his panel The Steven Universe Hour with Zach Callison. He talked about working on the show and his new single War. Steven Universe is one of my favorite cartoon series. I loved listening to his stories about working on the show. My favorite part of the panel is when he did the Cookie Cat rap.

PCKC Pull List

After the Steven Universe panel, I meet up with my husband who was waiting to have his photo taken with Sting. After that, I walked around the exhibit hall and bought a few things. Then I made way to PCKC Pull List: Drawing Your Favorite Characters Your Way With Skottie Young, Megan Levans, and special guest Christopher Priest.

Megan Levans is a comic book artist and is now drawing various Star Trek Projects for IDW. Christopher Priest is the first African-American writer and editor to work in the comic book industry and, has over 39 years of writing, editing, and publishing experience.

This was one of my favorite panels that I attended during the convention. I really enjoyed watching Skottie and Megan work it’s amazing how effortlessly they drew each character. They gave a lot of insight on being an artist and working in the comic book industry. Christopher Priest provided information on getting started in the industry and working with artists on projects.

It’s Me Mario

After the panel, I made my over to the Super Mario’s Odyssey With Charles Martinet panel. He is the voice actor behind Nintendo’s Mario and Luigi. He’s been doing the voice for over twenty years and even voiced a dragon in the game Skyrim. I’m a huge Nintendo fan. I loved when he did the voices of the characters. He also talked about how he got started and what it’s like being a voice actor for video games. His panel was a lot of fun and he had a lot of funny stories to tell.

WWE Panel

The next panel I attended was Team Bestie With WWE Hall Of Famers Trish And Lita. The panel was moderated by Dennis Hopeless a comic book writer who is currently working on the WWE comic book series for Boom! Studios. They both talked about how they got started in the wrestling industry and being apart of the first women’s division royal rumble. Trish and Lita are two of my favorite female wrestlers. They both have had amazing careers and interesting stories and experiences to share.

The last thing we did for the day was head over to the grand ballroom to watch the 2018 Planet Comicon Cosplay Contest. All the participants did an amazing job on their costumes. I admire the participants of cosplays contest. A lot of courage and confidence is needed get on stage and showcase your work and be judged. They all put a lot of time and effort into their cosplays and it definitely showed. After the cosplay contest was over he headed back to the car to make our way back home.

Thank you for reading! Stay tuned for part 3 of my Planet Comicon adventure.
